How do I know nautiDAWGS will work for my boat?
It's compatible with hunting boats, ski and pleasure boats, cruisers, pontoons, and docks. You need 17 inches of flat mounting space, a platform that sits no more than 18–20 inches above the water, and enough depth for two full steps to sit completely beneath the waterline. What should I know before installing it?
Installation is a permanent mount: you'll drill three holes and secure the mounting plate with the included screws and bolts. Make sure your swim platform or dock is structurally sound and the mounting surface is flat. Most installs take about 30 minutes with a drill — the install video on our Videos page walks through every step.
How do I train my dog to use the ladder?
Most dogs master it in about three attempts. The trick: direct them straight at the ladder using a floating toy they love to retrieve. Toss the toy, let them swim back with it, and guide their front paws to the first step. After a few climbs, they head for the ladder on their own.
What size is the ladder, and how much does it weigh?
Folded, it's 24 inches long by 17 inches wide by 6 inches high — smaller than most boat fenders. Extended, it reaches 48 inches. The whole ladder weighs under 15 pounds, so anyone on board can deploy or stow it.
Can people use the ladder?
No. The nautiDAWGS ladder is designed and rated for dogs only, with a maximum weight of 100 pounds. It is not for people, including children.
Can I use it in saltwater?
Yes — the fiberglass rails and stainless hardware are saltwater-ready. After saltwater use, rinse the ladder thoroughly with fresh water and let it drain and dry properly to keep it in top shape.
How is nautiDAWGS different from an inflatable dog ladder or ramp?
Inflatables have to be inflated, deflated, dried out, stored, and tied off to something on your boat every single time — and they generally only work on boats with low swim platforms. The nautiDAWGS ladder mounts once, deploys in seconds, works at heights inflatables can't reach, and there's nothing to babysit. Its steps are also about twice as deep as typical dog ladder rungs (9 inches vs roughly 4), and it sets a gentler ~45-degree climb angle instead of the 60-plus degrees most alternatives force on your dog.
Can I use one ladder on two boats, or on my dock?
Yes. The low-profile bracket stays mounted (with a smooth, clean finish and nothing sticking up to break a toe or snag a paw), and the ladder simply lifts on and off its guide clips. Add extra brackets and you can carry one ladder from boat to boat, or use it right on your dock. Contact us about additional brackets.
What's your return policy?
If the ladder isn't right for your boat, return it within 60 days of shipment — unused, in its original packaging with all hardware — for a refund. We even cover the prepaid return shipping label.
What warranty comes with it?
Every ladder carries a 1-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. It doesn't cover misuse, loads over 100 lbs, normal wear and tear, or damage from unrinsed saltwater exposure.
